Blog Neglect

Forgive me...it's been 3 months since my last post.  I can't believe it's already Q2!  Between work (our holiday themed microsite, Regiftable.com, is a finalist in the 2007 Ad-Tech Awards 'Best Word of Mouth Marketing' category!), devoting countless hours to the Houston Interactive Marketing Association (our next event is tomorrow, "Strategies and Best Practices from Houston's Leading Interactive Marketers"), "the house" (homeownership is a lot more work that I expected!), getting started with SEMPO's In-House Committee (a great group BTW), and a couple side projects, I have completely neglected this blog.

What will become of my little space?  I'm not sure to tell you the truth.  I need a new spin on interactive marketing...one that goes beyond the typical news oriented content that folks can get anywhere.  If you have an idea shoot me an email, I'd love to hear it.

Till next time...

Teaching, Learning, and Doing

Over the past year I've had the luxury of spliting my time between teaching, learning, and doing.  Over the past 45 days almost all of my time has been spent "doing" - something that has been a lot of fun (and produced quite a bit to talk about - more on that later) but nevertheless something that has taken time away from the teaching and learning (a.k.a. blogging).   I hope to be back in mid-November once several of my larger projects have been completed.  Until then I'm going to be MIA for awhile...

In the meantime I'm available by email or by phone should you need me.

Spend More, Enjoy Less

Read this over at Zane's blog.  My recommendation, read it twice...slowly.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh  too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the  atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and  small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is  the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our
breath away.

- George Carlin.

Google Security

OK, this is kinda funny.  Not ha-ha funny, but ironic funny.  On Friday Google adds a post to their blog about their stance on security.  24 hours later someone was able to create a fake post on their blog stating they were going to cancel their Adwords click-to-call test.

Most suprising thing to me?  The person who made the fake post could have gone for broke, why post something as lame as the cancellation of the click-to-call test?

Creating a Killer Email Signature Block

I'm on a crusade to create a email signature block template that I can rollout as the standard for the  company I work for.  Anyone have suggestions as to what I should bake into my proposal?

Google Food Standards

In a nutshell...

- They choose organic if there's a choice.
- No nitrite/nitrates in their meat.
- No hormones in their chicken.
- No MSG.
- All stocks and sauces are made from scratch.

Sounds wonderful! :)

Free Google Checkout T-Shirt

Spend $20, get a free shirt.  The odd thing is you can't choose your size - everyone will receive a large shirt.

This doesn't sound like the Google I used to know and love.  Why are they taking the easy way out with this campaign?  I would have expected Google to offer you the free shirt, in whatever size you wish, AND personalize it for you with you name or message on the reverse.

Odd...

37% of Marketing Dollars are Wasted

I was always wondering what percentage of my dollars were being wasted, thanks to the author of What Sticks, now I know (and now you know too).

Guess I would need to read the book in order to understand what he means by "wasted"...
